In The Girl of the Limberlost, the main character is a teenage girl named Elnora. in these days, many children didn't get to go to school, yet Elanora does. Elnora lives with her mother, Kate Comstock. Elnora's father died the day she was born. Elnora and her mother have a distant relationship, probably due to the fact, that her mother is still grieving. THe reason that her mother Kate is so upset is because she had to raise her daughter all by herself. And we all know when Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. This is true for Elnora because she has so many responsibilities now. Elnora doesn't really get along with her mom, in the fact that they don't talk about what really matters. They mostly talk about what is going on withElnoa's schooling and what not.
One of her new responsabilities is to raise her school tuition by herself. She does this by catching moths in Indiana. The way Elnora changes in this story is how she was becoming more mature. At the begining, Elnora seems rude and harsh, intelligent and courageous. Towards the end, Elnora and her mother bond, then they become closer and form a unique mother-daughter bond. It was very hard, both mentally and physically, for Elnora to raise her tuition on her own.
Elnora has changed throughout this book, she has become a beautiful youg lady. She was always pretty, but now, she has mor confidence in herself. She started out not believing in herself, and always following the crowd, but towards the end of this book, she foud some confidence, and self pride. She has also become independent. She has gone through many things most of us couldn't imagine. She came out of these experiences not a girl, but as a woman.
Ms. Beard, I do not have this book with me now, and the library does not have it in, and I cannot find it on the web. Just letting you know why I have no quotes. Sorry!!
